Marble
Swedish and Norwegian marble from Kolmården, Närke, Glanshammar, Södermanland and Fauske – in green, white, pink and blue-grey. Here you can see how the stones differ and what they cost.
About marble
Marble is limestone transformed by pressure and heat deep in the bedrock. The result is a dense, crystalline stone with lustre and veining. Nordic marble is hard-wearing and suits floors and walls in hallways, kitchens and bathrooms.
All our marble types are frost resistant. Marble is sealed after laying, just like limestone – the full system is in our care guide.
Kolmården marble
Forest-green marble from Kolmården in Östergötland, used since the Middle Ages – including at Drottningholm Palace. Sawn and honed at Borghamns Stenförädling. Honed shows clear veining; diamond-milled gives a rawer, grey-green tone.
Ekeberg marble
White marble with veins of gold and green, from Glanshammar by Lake Hjälmaren – formed some two billion years ago. Diamond-milled gives a shimmering white surface that works especially well in random lengths in the bathroom.
Brännlyckan
Green and dark blue-green marble from Brännlyckan in Närke, with touches of brown, white and black. A lively stone that makes a statement – in smaller formats the pattern becomes even livelier, in larger ones calmer.
Gropptorp marble
Green-grey marble from Marmorbyn in Södermanland, where stone has been quarried since the 12th century. Calmer in colour than Kolmården marble, with a natural lustre and lively colour variation.
Fauske marble, Norway
Norway’s only marble, quarried on a small scale outside Fauske in northern Norway. Available in soft pink, deep grey-blue and silver green – all with distinct marbling.
Chequerboard
Two Swedish marbles in a classic chequerboard pattern. Boo combines green Kolmården marble with white Ekeberg; Stjernsund green or dark Brännlyckan with white Ekeberg.
Honed or diamond-milled?
Honed gives a smooth surface where colour and veining show clearly. Diamond-milled gives a lighter, rawer tone and a surface that is not completely smooth. All finishes are cared for in the same way.
The finish changes the look more than you might think – try ordering the same stone in two finishes. Read more in the guide Surface finishes.
